My Big Star Chart
Victoria Charts Company's motto is "encourage and praise" in order to achieve positive behavioural outcomes from young children.
The charts are of a simple design, there is no limitation to how many rewards a child can earn each day, therefore they are flexible in their use and not restrictive. Each of the charts are age specific and cover common issues in young children’s lives, and, most importantly, parents and carers can tailor them to individual needs.
Extreme behaviour difficulties associated with mild ADHD and Autism can be focused on. They have been extensively tried and tested, and feedback shows that families greatly benefit from them.
For the most effective way forward this is how we suggest you use your chart:
At a suitable moment sit down and open your chart with your child, get them excited and tell them that it is going to be their special chart to show how well they are doing. Together decide on a good place to mount the chart; put it in an area where your child can easily see it. Write your child’s name at the top with the pen provided (or allow them to do this if they are able to). Decide what Kiddlies™ category stickers you would most like to concentrate on and place them on the left hand side of the chart. Use the blank Kiddlies™ stickers for particular issues that you want to cover and write next to them what they are for. These can be general things like ‘Washing my hands’ or more complex issues such as behavioural problems associated with toddlers.
Included in the pack are two types of reward stickers - use the coloured smiley faces as a reward for when your child has done well.
Encourage them to count along the way and to practice learning their colours. Use the gold smiley face stickers for when they do exceptionally well.
Make it very obvious to your child when they have earned their sticker, what it is for and how exciting this can be. Encourage them to show friends and family how well they are doing and make a fuss of each reward they earn.
It is important to recognise that the products do not work on their own, parent and carer involvement is key, and giving encouragement and praise for each little step goes a long way.
