DK My First cd-rom Preschool

Hours of fun and learning for preschoolers by Dorling Kindersley (DK).

Six activities add up to fun and learning for kids 3-5.

Parents can choose levels and change game options to fit their child.

Steer Clear is a fun driving game where children use arrows to steer a truck. Children begin by moving the truck to a pile of sand. As levels progress preschoolers are asked to pick up piles of sand and put them into holes. There are also obstacles to avoid. This activity helps develop spatial awareness and basic computer skills. Children can use the mouse or arrow keys on the keyboard.

Kids complete patterns of pictures in What Comes Next, a fun pattern game. As the level increases the pattern becomes more complex using different pictures and sizes. Pattern recognition is a crucial development skill. This is the perfect activity to enhance recognition and predicting.

Preschoolers follow the smoke trail of a helicopter as it forms letters in Alphabet Pilot. This is a great activity to learn letter recognition and practice letter formation. Kids watch the letter form and then direct the helicopter with their mouse to form the letter again. In harder levels the letters are lower case. Parents choose for the letter name or sound to be spoken.

Bubble Trouble teaches letter sounds. Preschoolers pop the bubbles that contain pictures with the correct beginning letter sound. The letter sounds is pronounced along with the name for each picture. Parents control the level and speed of the game.

Click and Count asks kids to click on pictures and count up to 20. In harder levels kids are asked to choose the correct number after counting. These are bright beautiful pictures just like the DK books.

Number Munch is a fun game with a frog. Numbers slide across the screen and kids help a frog catch them with his tongue. Kids quickly learn number recognition with the crazy game.

If you are familiar with the Dorling Kindersley (DK) books then you know these graphics are incredible. Real pictures pop off the page holding the interest of even small children. Screens are simple so preschoolers are not overwhelmed or confused.

Along with the activities on the computer there are printable worksheets for enhance skills away from the computer. Parents can check children's progress and set levels to ensure their child is getting the most out of the activities. The parents guide also contains a developmental guide which shows which activities can enhance certain developmental areas.
