Reader Rabbit Thinking Adventures
Here is an excellent software program designed to teach logic, reasoning, and problem-solving skills to young children. Reader Rabbit and friends host this learning adventure full of fun and surprises.
Reader Rabbit Thinking Adventures Ages 4-6 uses ADAPT Learning Technology, which is a dynamic system that continually adjusts the program to match a player's changing abilities. Each activity features clear adjustable difficulty levels as well.
The first clue that this program is unique occurs at sign-in. The Learning Company has made it so that the program recognises 527 names in their most common spellings, and throughout the program, Reader Rabbit calls your child by name (as long as it is one of the 527). Kids get a huge kick out of this feature! Players also enter their birthday in the calendar, and if they play the program on their birthday, they are in for a little surprise.
Players can opt to take a "test drive" before playing the game. This pre-assessment activity is relatively brief and customises the program's skill level for each player.
Reader Rabbit Thinking Adventures activities:
The game itself revolves around a fun birthday theme. Reader Rabbit and his friends want to throw a birthday party for Sam the Lion.
Throughout Wordville, there are characters that need help making the preparations. There are 4 main areas to explore: Papa Bear's Store, Babs' Kitchen, Professor Owl's Tree House, and Pierre's Studio - each with 2 activities:
Toy Sort involves helping Papa Bear organize toys into hula-hoops, very much like Venn diagrams. In level 1, the hoops are non-intersecting, and are intersecting on level 2. There are 3 intersecting hoops on level 3.
In Gift Wrapper, children attempt to make their presents look either the same or different than the given ones. They must select from different shapes and sizes of boxes, wrapping paper, bows, and tags.
Kids help Babs make treat bags in Treat Time, and they must sort the different treats in arrays.
Cookie Creator is great fun, and an exercise for the brain at the same time. Players must copy the designs on the cookies that Babs has made. At the easiest level, kids can put the different decorations on the cookies in any order, but as the levels increase, the order makes a difference, so children must learn to plan ahead.
In Mouse Dance, Mat and her friends are practising dances for the party, and kids help the mice perform the correct dance steps.
Donkey Directions features a grid map and players must choose a sequence of direction icons to help Mat move to the donkey.
Wrapping Paper Painter requires players to complete patterns that Pierre the raccoon has started. These patterns vary from simple to complex, depending on the difficulty level.
In Banner Builder, kids help Pierre make cards different than the ones next to them in one way, in two ways, and in one and two ways. Solving these puzzles will earn words for the banner.
Reader Rabbit Thinking Adventures features:
Each area has a clickable surprise song, and these are great fun!
Help is always available - POP (the Program Options Pad) is accessible on the main screen and in the activity screens. From POP, kids can check their progress, get back to the main screen quickly, check how many supplies they have collected, exit the game, and more.
