The Road and Traffic Education Centre (RTEC) in Auckland has joined forces with CogniFit to bring to New Zealand the latest version of  cognitive assessment and training technology that is specifically designed to predict collision risk and promote safer driving. 

RTEC supply three different versions of the programs to cater for the needs of new, fleet and senior drivers. The Managing Director Tony Williams said “We’re excited by this technology for several reasons. The programs assess each driver’s cognitive and perceptual strengths and weakness so we can identify and address potentially lethal deficiencies before they get behind the wheel. This is of great comfort not only to parents of student drivers but also fleet managers as they can use the assessment technology to avoid very expensive hiring mistakes.” Mr Williams went on to say “the technology comes with a great reporting platform so we can not only record assessment results but also keep drivers and fleet managers up to date with how their training is progressing and the improvements being made. It’s an online program so we can offer this to young drivers to do at home before they come to us for lessons. Likewise we can service the needs of fleet managers off-site and in multiple locations”.

The human brain is not fully developed until the early 20’s.The last part to develop is the lobes of prefrontal cortex. The area of the brain that controls impulses, calms emotions, provides an understanding of the consequences of behaviour and allows reasoned, logical and rational decision-making.

• First, the student undertakes an online baseline assessment to ascertain their profile across the 10 driving-related cognitive abilities.
• They then go online and complete their first 20-minute training session that has been created for them based on their assessment.
• For best results and maximum improvement, we recommend that users train 3 times per week, with at least one day of rest between training sessions.
• As they progress through a cycle of 24 training sessions, CogniFit New Driver creates a customised training regimen that’s based on the student’s previous session.
• During each training session, CogniFit New Driver offers students’ feedback and encouragement along the way.
• The exercises regimen adjusts to reflect their progress to make sure that they’re training at optimum efficiency.
• Following each session, a record of the student’s progress is created and saved for future reference.
