Customised Program

Is It Effective?
A brief summary of the findings from the Project Tabeetha Case Study. Project Tabeetha compared the effects of cognitive training intervention (MindFit Whiz Kids) to that of an enriched literacy intervention on neuro-cognitive, literacy, cognitive-literate reserve and psychosocial performance of school children.
Participants
The children were all students attending grades 1,2,3,4,5, and 6.
There were approximately 140 pupils of some 30 to 40 different nationalities.
Gains in reading comprehension
It is a well known fact that teacher conducted additional literacy instruction (in addition to the regular curriculum) improves reading comprehension.
The results were that both groups, those undergoing additional literacy training, and those engaged in the MindFit Whiz Kids program, improved in the WRAT reading test.
As shown by previous research children in grades 1 - 3 improve reading comprehension skills when, in addition to the standard syllabus, they are given additional teacher-conducted literacy training.
However, the same children, can improve reading skills just as much by training on the MindFit Whiz Kids program by themselves.
Gains in attention
The children in the cognitive training program showed significant improvement in several key attention abilities (divided attention, attention, and vigilance). Their achievement was significantly better than that of the literacy enhancement group, in those same measures.
The conclusion was that children in grades 1 - 3 can improve their attention abilities crucial to learning and understanding by training with MindFit Whiz Kids, but not by addition of teacher-conducted literacy activities.
Not only are the gains for attention significantly greater, but MindFit Whiz Kids also gives children a chance to learn in a different way than they do in class.
MindFit Whiz Kids can never replace a teacher, but by improving attention it adds significantly to their ability to grasp more complex subject matter.
